Sparta Pallas - a decent city bike

Here is the Sparta bike that I will be riding (to raise funds/awareness for Cystic Fibrosis) from Sydney to Melbourne. It is a trendy and comfortable aluminium Dutch city-bike, complete with Shimano's NEXUS 7-Speed Internal Hub gears (designed for the the ideal coffee shop bike Shimano says!), front suspension, rollerbrakes,... In other words I will be pushing it to the limit riding it on forest roads and highways, through creeks and up and down the foothills of the Great Dividing range along the NSW and Vitorian Gippsland Coast. This Sparta bicycle will most likely be the first ever bike to see a Koala Bear in the wild.

If you havent already made a donation to CF Tasmania through the Everyday Hero website I urge you to do it now, I really want to reach the $4095 goal I set!

christania’s “bike rental copenhagen” bikes are rolling across the city. The system, less than a year old, is funded by christania’s municipal government. It is currently only in one of christania’s 22 administrative districts. Although a 2nd generation system, there are 12 “Houses” in this district, each with around 40 bikes. The yearly subscription cost is the equivalent of $2 US, and allows the use of a bike for up to four hours at a time. In less than a year, there have been 6,000 subscriptions sold. There are larger 3rd generation systems in the world, which do not have a subscription to bike ratio as big as that.
