About Walter and the Ride and Hike for CF

CF survivor Walter van Praag has formed a team of brave friends to attempt the crazy idea of cycling 3600km on electric assisted bicycles from Tasmania to Western Australia!

They will cycle across the Nullarbor Plain from Devonport to Albany on Aseako Electric Bikes, then hike 1000km onwards towards Perth along the Bibbulmun Track.

Follow their adventure at www.coughing4cf.comand on the Coughing4CF Facebook page. See if you can find Wally along the ride!

Wally has a lung capacity of just over 35% and turns 50 this July, so this is no small feat. His team is made up of mostly inexperienced riders, who all think they can do it if Wally can :) You can do it too, so why not find some friends to ride us in or out of your town?

The entire team is self-funded but we would love some sponsorship to help us with team expenses such as fuel and fees for the support caravan/vehicle and communication costs to raise awareness for Cystic Fibrosis. A caravan and vehicle will follow Walter's team along the ride.Would you like it to carry your advertising message?

We aim to raise $10,000 in donations through theEveryday Hero project for Cystic Fibrosis Tasmania, and another $10,000 during the ride.

Now Walter is not new at doing Mission Impossible.
Walter was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for his international success in the promotion of Cystic Fibrosis following his bicycle ride from Paris to Istanbul. It was called Coughing the Distanceand was made into a book and documentary and gained international CNN coverage.

Since Coughing the Distance, Walter has also managed to get a team across from Vietnam to Singapore through monsoonal rains and miltary Thai zones, climbed Mount Kinabalu in Borneo, cycled from Melbourne to Sydney, and walked the El Camino across Spain. Each trip he believes is the last before he needs to get a new set of lungs :)
